Embark on a comprehensive day out from Glasgow to the scenic West Highlands taking in the fascinating castles and the alluring lochs.
You will cross the Rest and Be Thankful Pass to reach the whitewashed 18th century town of Inveraray on the shores of Loch Fyne. Built in the 1770s by the Duke of Argyll, the town is a perfect example of Scottish Georgian architecture. At Inverarary, you will see the Inveraray Castle which was the first of its size and type to be built on the West Coast of Scotland.
Next, you will head to the fishing port of Oban, famously known as the Gateway to the Isles and continue along the stunning west coast through Appin, passing the impregnable Castle Stalker, before spending the afternoon in the majestic beauty of Glencoe. As you stand at the mouth of the glen, you'll feel the past come to life as the guide tells you about the terrible massacre of the MacDonald Clan.
Moving forward, you will travel to an altitude of 1000ft descending from Buachaille Etive Mor towards the wild desolation of Rannoch Moor. The moor’s unique landscape is covered by heather and peat-bogs and filled with several lochs. From here you will then travel through Glen Falloch.
Your last stop before returning to Glasgow will be in Luss, an 18th century conservation village with cottages for labourers who work at the estates.
